A heart-warming tale this week comes from Rio De Janeiro, where a local man developed a close bond… with a penguin! Retired bricklayer and part time fisherman Joao Pereira de Souza, 71, helped nurse the penguin, Dindim, back to health four years ago, before releasing him back into the sea thinking he’d never see him again.
But Dindim returned! Swimming 5,000 miles to come to see Joao four times in four years since staying with the fisherman, with De Souza stating that “I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me.” This crazy yet wonderful story has since gone viral, with mainstream coverage across titles such as the Metro and MailOnline, with over 17.5k shares between them.
